K-9 Replica

For a 4th year prop project I made a replica K-9 Unit from 1970's Doctor Who.

He is to scale, remote controlled, has LED eyes, and moving ears.

Head

I Modeled K-9's head on Fusion 360, split it into 10 diffrent sections and 3D printed everything using ASA. This was the logest prosses of the build.

Body

Using dimensions found online I created a to scale pattern of K-9's body. From there I constructed it out of cardboard to get a feel from the shape. After much deliberation over materials and much trail and error I ended up cutting all the pieces out of styrene and attaching them to my cardboard base. This created a sturdy yet lightweight body.

Guts

I wanted K-9 to be able to do 3 things: move via remote controll, have red LED eyes, and have rotating ears.

For the movment of K-9 himself I purched a very large remote control car from kijiji (the MEGA-WREX) which I didasmbled and added new wheels to.

The ears are controlled by servo motors which in turn are controlled by an Arduino located in K-9's head. The LED's are also controlled by the Aurdino.
